What does it mean to be beautiful? This is a question that all girls have asked themselves, and, in fact, many women still do. Self-image is a problem that women have long struggled with. Subject to objectification and raised in a world where it is the norm, women are self-conscious to the point of anxiety, depression, and even self-hate. Ask a woman what part of their body or face they wish they could change, and chances are high that they’ll have more than one answer.

Historically, beauty has always been defined by a single archetype that reflects a certain era. But the standard of beauty need not be dictated by a certain look. And in 2017, Dove challenges beauty stereotypes by recognizing and celebrating the diversity of beauty.
