The Mind Museum receives LEED gold certification

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Mind Museum in Bonifacio Global City recently received a Leadership in Environment and Energy Design (LEED) Gold Certification for its environment-friendly features.

The LEED is an internationally recognized program for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings established by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The Mind Museum earned the certification for its efforts in conserving water and energy reducing CO2 emissions, improving indoor air quality, and setting up a materials recovery facility, among other efforts.

“Science has already established that we humans create an impact far deeper and faster than the rate at which nature can replenish herself. If we were to be a science museum that will walk its talk, it will be a science museum that will be built with a green philosophy and plan. And as Manny has just told you, we did and we just did not lay out a strategy that was convenient for the team. We followed a third party requirement,” said Maria Isabel Garcia of The Mind Museum.

LEED professionals from Langdon and Seah guided the project team of Bonifacio Art Foundation Inc. (BAFI) in designing and building The Mind Museum according to “green” requirements. The project team was composed of BAFI, the museum’s architectural firm, Lor Calma & Partners led by Ed Calma, Ayala Land Inc. experts, and consultants for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural design.

The Mind Museum opened to the public in March 2012 and has so far accommodated about 300,000 visitors.
