Footwear designed just for surfers
Our sports scene has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years!
Just recently, I attended an event which announced a three-year
tie up by television network Solar Sports with the National Cheerleading Championship. That’s big news considering that cheer dance is a sport in its early years.
That same week, I witnessed the launch of the latest collection of Sanuk, the California-based footwear brand. Launched in 1977, Sanuk has earned critical acclaim for its signature footwear, including the bestselling
Sidewalk Surfer, which is also the world’s first and only true sandal/shoe hybrid, and the very popular Yoga Mat sandal collection. It stays true to its name taken from the Thai word for fun!
The brand’s roster of athlete-ambassadors is impressive, with surfers Donavon Frankenreiter and Matt Meola, rock climbers Chris Sharma and Daniel Woods, and snowboarder Jeremy Jones.

This is also big news locally because it shows just how diverse our sports community already is, with footwear specifically targeted just for surfers now doing great business in the country.
Because of the brand’s comfortable style, it has moved on to a different platform, becoming an after-sports shoe for other athletes, not to mention a lifestyle shoe for the everyday people.
