Golfers tee up to support Down Syndrome project

REAL SPORTS SCENE - Anthony Suntay - The Philippine Star

The 11th Golf Tee-up for Down project of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI) held at the beautiful Midlands course of Tagaytay Highlands was a resounding success!

Over 100 golfers joined in the fun game to help raise funds for the various activities of DSAPI, which is celebrating the National Down Syndrome Consciousness Month this month.

The DSAPI is a non-stock, non-profit organization founded in 1991 by a group of dedicated and committed parents and concerned physicians. It offers to help support parents with a child with Down Syndrome and to initiate, develop, promote, encourage, and support programs and projects related to Down Syndrome. The organization believes that the initial reactions of new parents that typically include disappointment, sorrow, fear, guilt, confusion, and anger can be replaced with positive attitudes of warmth, love, understanding, and hope.

The group also just finished their Happy Walk at the Skydome, SM North EDSA last Feb. 23. It was a whole-day event for families and friends to enjoy with lots of fun-filled activities.

Last February  22-27, they had the 3rd Look-up for Down art exhibit at the Power Plant Mall, featuring paintings of persons with Down Syndrome.

And finally, last February 28, they had their Dine for Down by their sibling support group, where invitees to the event got to experience being served by persons with Down Syndrome at 1521, Burgos Circle. Dinner, which was pegged at P600/person started at 6 p.m.  Everybody enjoyed fine dining and helped DSAPI raise funds to support its worthwhile programs and activities.
