Phl breaks World Record on organ donor sign up

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines has broken the most number of people who sign up for organ donation or pledge.

Health Undersecretary Teodoro Herbosa said the final count for the first hour of sign up at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila was 3,548, breaking the old record held by India with 2,775 in 2013.

In La Union, Herbosa said the number of people who signed up for organ donation reached a total of 2,978 while 1,134 in Tuguegarao , 944 in Davao and 788 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.

Event organizers have yet to get the final count for the eight hour category as of this posting as signs up at the six areas will be until 5 p.m. 

The eight-hour category record is also held by India with 10, 450 people who pledged for organ donation.
