Beauty, generosity & teetime

REAL SPORTS SCENE - Anthony Suntay - The Philippine Star

Beauty queen, actress, and now Pateros councilor Daisy Reyes just had her first golf tournament simply called “The Daisy Reyes Cup Invitational” at the Valley Golf Club the other week and over 80 golfers answered the 8 a.m. tee time.

The event was developed to help the social responsibility project of Dr. Joselito Ang, a medical oncologist, which helps indigents, particularly the cancer patients in the province of Nueva Ecija, as part of Daisy’s humanitarian concerns for the needy.

The admirable generosity and heartwarming contributions of golf aficionados, friends, supporters, and sponsors of the one-day tournament generated P100,000, which Dr. Cruz received during the awarding ceremonies.

The weather cooperated in the morning with warm sunshine but towards the mid-afternoon, rain began to pour down on the golfers who continued to finish their game and considered the rain as a blessing from the heavens for the charitable golf event.

Councilor Daisy thanked the organizers and sponsors as she awarded the winners of the tournament. The event was supported by Nike Golf, Daisy Premium Papaya Soap, Pacsports, The Address at Wack Wack, SM Prime, Stradcom, San Miguel, White Knight Hotel Intramuros, Robinsons Land Corporation, Suriya Spa, Gapan Drug, Alveo Land, Naomi, Appeton, Dr. Smile, Mega Fiber, Meister, Rizgolf, and Impact Golf.

The champions, first runners-up and second runners-up were: Class A — Floyd Santos, Vince Hizon, Noel Flores; Class B — Marlon Leano, Joel Paguio, Ely Saludar; Class C —Boy Castro, Bong Fernando, Yancy Uy; Ladies — Arvi Lobangco, Glydel Mercado.

Daisy is now looking forward to staging another humanitarian charitable golf classic in the near future.

“Come rain or sunshine,” she said with a sweet smile.
