Erwan on best way to healthy living: Eat fresh

MANILA, Philippines - If one were to ask French-Filipino food lover Erwan Heussaff what’s the best way to be truly healthy, his answer would simply be “eat fresh.”

The 26-year-old Heussaff, also known for his food blog The Fat Kid Inside (www.thefatkidinside.com), shares that as he enjoys cooking healthy meals and that he only gets his ingredients from Rustan’s Supermarket.

“I’m there almost every day,” Heussaff says.

He adds that he doesn’t buy ingredients for a week’s meal but as much as possible, he does it on a daily basis just to make sure that what he prepares is always fresh.

Heussaff admits being a little obsessive compulsive that way. At the age of 18, he used to take pictures of himself shirtless every week just to see how much things have changed.

“I love using my body as an experiment,” Heussaff said. “I was at my fattest when I was 20, around six year ago. I started to lose most of the weight when I was 21 and every year since, I’ve been losing more and more.”
Heussaff says that one should think of the body as a car and consider what the best fuel would be for it to be consumed in the best way.

“Like if you’re an active person, go ahead and eat a lot of steak,” he says. “But if you want to lose weight, start by cutting out sugar from your diet. Also, for one or two months, stop eating anything that has high glycemic levels and gluten. At the end of the day is that you’ll see you’re left with vegetables and protein.”

Rustan’s took notice of Heussaff’s passion, including the fact that he is able to help people through his blog and it was only logical for the two to join forces.

“It’s the superb quality and wide range of Rustan’s Supermarket’s products that always won me over,” Heussaff says. “And I always find that when I walk out of Rustan’s, I’m a happy customer. I’m able to get all the things I need, and even get to know new ways to enjoy meals through the brands that they bring in.”

The arrival of British brand Waitrose into Rustan’s, naturally, was a welcome addition for Heussaff.

“I love Waitrose!” exclaims Heussaff. “I made a beeline for Rustan’s as soon as their products hit the shelves, particularly the caramel sauce. We Filipinos are known for our love of food. We enjoy flavor, and we savor each dish. Waitrose is a brand that will add to that experience, especially when it comes to whipping up our own meals and enjoying them at home.”

Heussaff’s partnership with Rustan’s will also see him highlighting key items from Rustan’s Supermarket via the “Fat Kid Inside” badge based on his personal recommendation. At the same time, Heussaff will also use the products for the recipes that he will post on his blog.
