MANILA, Philippines - Saucony, a top name in running and an authentic performance footwear brand, recently announced that Guide 5,  the brand’s flagship franchise shoe, has earned the prestigious International Editors’ Choice Award as “best shoe of 2012” by the international editors of Runner’s World magazine, the worldwide authority on running information. The award was recently officially presented to Saucony by Runner’s World at The Running Event in Austin, Texas.

“To be acknowledged by the international editors of Runner’s World is an incredible honor for the whole Saucony team,” says Patrick O’Malley, senior vice president of global product for Saucony. “The Guide 5 created a bold statement for the brand: It was the first shoe reengineered with our revolutionary Geometry of Strong platform. Combining insight from the community of runners with the latest research from our state-of-the-art Human Performance and Innovation Lab, our product team was able to deliver what is now recognized as ‘the world’s best shoe’ to the global running community.”

Saucony made a bold statement in Spring 2012 when it first launched its groundbreaking Geometry of Strong product platform on three of the brand’s best-selling franchise models, led by Guide 5. Taking innovation to a new level, the brand reduced the shoe’s offset from the average 12mm to 8mm, allowing for a lower impact strike and a more powerful running stride. Guide 5 was named “Editor’s Choice” in the 2012 Runner’s World Spring Shoe Guide.

â€œThe Guide 5 shed almost two ounces from its previous version, but didn’t lose a shred of cushioning while keeping all of its stability features,” said the Runner’s World editors. “Testers raved about the cushioning and support and could not get over the shoe’s weight. Saucony got more with less by lowering the heel-to-toe drop by 4mm and using lighter rubber on the shoe’s outsole.”

“This was the lightest Saucony I’ve ever tested, yet it was easily the most comfortable,” says Mariliz Killeen, 45, an Allentown, Pennsylvania wear-tester who’s run in the past three versions of the Guide for Runner’s World. “When I hold the Guide 4 and the Guide 5 in my hands, the Guide 5 is noticeably lighter.”

Saucony’s Guide 5  is available in specialty run retailers and major department stores nationwide.
