Filipinos top global love survey

Camille Diola - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Filipinos get the most love in the world, according to a global love survey conducted by American pollster Gallup.

Asked whether they have experienced feelings of love the day before, 93 percent of the Filipino respondents representing the whole population answered positively.

"The world leader in love is the Philippines, where fully 93 percent of the population reported feeling love," University of Michigan professor Justin Wolfers, author of the study, said in a blog post on Tuesday.

The percentage is way higher than the average of 70 percent--the ratio of the world's population who report to have experienced love, whether from romance, family members or good friends.

The well-loved Filipinos are closely followed by Rwandans with 92 percent and Puerto Ricans with 90 percent of the population admitting to have felt love the day before.

On the other end of the scale, the country with the least widespread feelings of love is Armenia with only 29 percent of respondents saying they have felt love yesterday.

Mongolians came in second, with only 32 percent of their population having recently experienced feelings of love.

Wolfers rendered new findings to the original global study he conducted that involved 136 countries. The original survey was part of the World Poll in 2006 and 2007.

"The result is the most comprehensive global index of love ever constructed," the author said.
