Clean, potable water wherever you are

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Water is such a precious necessity for mankind, but in some areas of the world, drinking water can be very hard to find.  Even in a water-rich country like the Philippines, far-flung areas that are even near water bodies can still be deprived of clean drinking water that every human needs.  Also, disasters including earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods often result in limited or compromised access to water systems.

Today, a life-changing invention made in Europe is now available in the Philippines.  The award-winning LifeStraw portable water filter can remove bacteria and parasites even from unclean water sources, and is ideal for outdoor activities, travel, emergency preparedness, and survival.

LifeStraw is an elegantly simple but technologically advanced innovation. The filtering tube measures about nine inches long and one inch in diameter, and weighs less than two ounces. It removes virtually all bacteria (99.9999 percent) and protozoa parasites (99.9 percent) that can contaminate water, and it reduces turbidity (muddiness) by filtering out particulate matter.  Rigorous laboratory testing of LifeStraw conducted by the University of Arizona found that LifeStraw performance exceeded US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) water filtration requirements for bacteria and parasites, including Escherichia coli, Cryptosporidium, Giardia lamblia, Salmonella, and other waterborne pathogens.

Also, LifeStraw has been designed to last. The filter is made of durable plastic, is chemical-free (and BPA-free), and does not require electrical power, batteries or replacement parts; it is powered by user-generated suction. When used properly, each LifeStraw will filter at least 700 liters (185 gallons) of water.

Since it is portable, it takes up little space in a camper’s backpack or a traveler’s luggage.  It is also the perfect first-aid tool for disaster preparedness, especially during times of typhoons and rains, when safe potable water can be drawn even from unlikely safe water sources.

Another innovative product of LifeStraw is the LifeStraw Family, a point-of-use microbial water treatment system intended for routine use in low-income settings.  It can filter up to 18,000 liters of water, enough to supply a family of five with microbiologically clean drinking water for three years.  It also ensures high flow rate and high volume of purified water.
