What are you up to this long weekend?
MANILA, Philippines - The four-day "weekend" provides us with the opportunity to do the things that we've always wanted to do, but can't find the time to do so.
Starting on tomes like Infinite Jest or 1Q84, for example. It may take more than four days to finish them, but at least you have four whole non-work days to start on a few chapters of that big book that has been gathering dust on your shelf. It's also a great time to discover new authors. You may want to check out National Bookstore, which is on sale until August 19.
Discover new food destinations. Gather friends and family and drive around the metro and try new food choices. Have you tried the restaurants in Maginhawa St. yet? How about Wingman or Wabi-Sabi at The Collective in Malugay? Never been to Ongpin? If you want to get out of the city, Tagaytay, Bulacan and Pampanga are great foodie destinations as well.
Visit a museum. While they may not be open this Monday and Tuesday, you can still drop by museums such as the GSIS Museo ng Sining and Museo Pambata this Saturday. The GSIS art collection includes, among others, Juan Luna's celebrated "Parisian Life" and paintings by Fernando Amorsolo, Botong Francisco, Vicente Manansala, HR Ocampo, Bencab, and Federico Alcuaz. The Museo Pambata, meanwhile, is an interactive museum for children. Here, one can find a simulated rainforest, coastal area, and herbal garden; an area where kids can journey back to Old Manila while trying on clothes their grandparents once wore; and an installation where they could journey inside the human body.
Start on a new hobby. Whether it's herb gardening or painting, mastering a computer program or a foreign language, you have four work-free days to learn a new skill.
Exercise. If you've always complained that you've never had the time to lift, stretch, or run, now you don't have to. Hit the gym or go for a run in your neighborhood. Exercise is also a good way to de-stress yourself.
