Helping parents nurture their child's singing talent

-

MANILA, Philippines - To help parents support their child’s performing talent, Promil Pre-School and the Center for Pop, offer some tips for parents to help them hone their child’s potential at home.

Cecile Tamura, vice president for Parents of the Philippine Association of the Gifted, notes that the preschool age is the stage of development where kids begin to apply what they have learned in their earlier years, with emotional development beginning to partner with their cognitive development.

Weng Lauron, training head of Center for Pop, also finds the preschool age a good time to nurture a child’s singing talent. “This is a time to learn what they can do individually like brush their teeth without any help, count 1 to 10 at least, and sing songs. Kids at this age are active, they want to move, and singing is one activity that involves physical actions.”

The Center for Pop encourages the singing talent of preschoolers through a variety of methods. “We let our students turn ordinary phrases into chants or songs like when they’re asked to introduce themselves, they need to answer us in a singing manner. We incorporate fun games in our warm-up or vocal exercises to motivate kids to sing during the training. We also assign group songs for the kids since it is more fun to sing with their peers,” explains Lauron.

Lauron shares some tips to help parents nurture their children’s talent for singing at home. “Sing at home or in the car while doing chores or while your child is playing. You can turn ordinary phrases into chants or songs, for example: ‘Now it’s bath time, now it’s bath time, yes it is, yes it is’... to the tune of Are You Sleeping? Then show appreciation whenever your child tries to sing or tries to imitate someone singing.”

“Outdoor concerts like mall shows are also great opportunities to develop interest in singing,” suggests Lauron.

Parents actually play a pivotal role in the development of their child’s talents, especially during these years. That is why Promil Pre-School, a powdered milk drink for children four to seven years old, continues to support parents in this endeavor by providing them with opportunities to nurture their child’s talent at this crucial age.

One such event was the i-Shine Talent Camp, which gave children from all over the country a whole day of singing, dancing, and acting workshops. Promil Pre-School helps support children’s talents and let them shine through proper nutrition. It contains Nutrissentials, a unique combination of essential nutrients to help optimize a child’s full potential.
