SM cares for Filipino soldiers
MANILA, Philippines - When the Heroes Ward 3A of the AFP Medical Center was inaugurated last year, patients of Ward 3B appealed to SMFI executive director Debbie Sy to have their ward renovated as well. In June 2011, their wish came true as the renovated 3B was officially turned over by SMFI executive director of Health & Medical Services Connie Angeles to the officials of the hospital led by Col. Rosario B. Guevarra, acting commanding officer of the AFPMC, and to the patients of the said ward.
Ward 3B, which is part of the AFPMC’s orthopedic wing, now boasts newly painted walls, murals, TV sets, electric fans, and portable DVDs in each cubicle. The ward shares the renovated private rooms for officers, three post-operative rooms, isolation rooms, nurses’ station and waiting room of Ward 3A. Toilet facilities of both wards were completely renovated to fit the needs of orthopedic patients.
The Heroes Ward serves military officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian auxiliary patients who are wounded and injured in line of duty.
SM Foundation’s caring philosophy extends not only to the less privileged civilian population but also to the men in uniform. It will be recalled that late last year, a Felicidad Sy Wellness Center was donated by SM Foundation to the Air Force General Hospital, a hospital that services the medical needs of military personnel and their dependents and the communities in the vicinity of the Villamor Airbase. The Foundation completely renovated the hospital’s Pediatric Outpatient Department
