Workout for your kid's teeth and gums

-

MANILA, Philippines - Health and fitness need not be confined to the body alone. Even our mouth needs a little workout for the benefit of our teeth and gums, especially among kids. While sufficient amounts of calcium build strong teeth, giving them some form of “exercise,” along with  a healthy diet, daily brushing and flossing, as well as regular dental visits also help in keeping the teeth healthy.

Chewing is one enjoyable exercise that flexes your gums just like a regular exercise does to your muscles. In fact, if kids are encouraged to bite and chew on sugar cane sticks, they should also be encouraged to chew gum  with good reason.

Contrary to negative perception, chewing gum is actually more beneficial for your teeth and gums  provided it is a dental health gum. The act of chewing gum stimulates salivation. And because saliva is a natural mouthwash, it helps in rinsing food from our mouth and thus helps in the prevention of cavities.

Cavities are formed by the production of “mutans streptococci,” bacteria that convert sugars and carbohydrates from food into acid. The acid melts the tooth enamel, causing decalcification and boring a hole which becomes a cavity.

To stop this from happening, chew on some Lotte Xylitol dental gum. It contains xylitol, a natural cavity-preventing sweetener with less calories than sugar that stops the production of acids that cause cavities. It has a mild and cool minty flavor that kids will love, too.

And did you know that in highly developed countries like Finland, it is recommended to chew Lotte Xylitol dental health gum after meals, and before and after brushing your teeth?

Lotte Xylitol dental health gum is available at Mercury Drug outlets and supermarkets nationwide.
