The RAT (Run Against Trafficking) race
MANILA, Philippines - Zonta Club of Makati, a regional charter of Zonta International, one of the first clubs in the Philippines founded in 1952, recently organized Run Against Trafficking (RAT) race, a fun run held at Mckinley Hills, Bonifacio Global City to jump start the Visayan Forum Foundation Inc., a non-government organization focused on empowering migrant workers. The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) held a six-day commitment week (March 13 to 18) to spread awareness of the country’s fight against modern-day slavery.
“It seems a lot of people don’t give a second thought about saving whales or saving rain forests, but few people are raising a fuss about saving people,” says Vicki Abraham, president of Zonta Club Makati Ayala.
With the big number of runners that turned out in Metro Manila alone, the campaign against human trafficking sure spread awareness like living infomercials.
The RAT Race owed its success to all the men, women, and children who supported the cause.
Proceeds from the RAT race went to the Visayan Forum Foundation Inc., saving over 12 millions of adults and children being victimized by forced labor, sexual exploitation, bonded labor, and forced prostitution through education, shelter, and livelihood programs.
