A special journal by special children
MANILA, Philippines - In December last year, Center for Possibilities Inc. (CFP), in cooperation with Reach International School, launched the book There’s Something You Should Know About Me at Fully Booked, Bonifacio High Street, Taguig.
The book is a compilation of journal entries by children ages 13-18, both normal and with special needs. The anthology was edited by Carljoe Javier, and the book was designed by Dang Sering.
The launch was attended by the teen and tween contributors, their parents, families, and friends. Karen Davila, news anchor who’s also a parent of a special child, graced the event. The atmosphere in the bookstore was electric even before the program started.
Special parents and guests together expressed their amazement upon learning that children with special needs wrote the entries in the book. “I can’t believe what I’m seeing right now. Special children wrote this? My child has autism and I feel good and hopeful knowing my child can actually do the same thing,” a special parent shares.
A shower of support flooded CFP’s cause. Reach International School hosted the journal-writing class conducted by writer Tweet Sering. Fully Booked accommodated the book launch and agreed to sell the books in their stores nationwide. Pancake House Group surprised everyone by sponsoring the food catered during the event.
The event was very successful in that many hearts and lives were touched by these children through the journal entries.
The Center for Possibilities Inc. is an NGO that supports and caters to the needs of children with developmental disabilities and their families. Since 2008, CFP has had a series of projects, including monthly support groups for parents and families of special children. The group also sponsors outreach activities for abandoned special children such as the communities of Virlanie and Cottolengo.
