Packing love - and empowerment - in lunchboxes
MANILA, Philippines - Who would have thought that lunchboxes could be a learning experience for kids? We’ve always thought of lunchboxes as symbols of love; after all, don’t we parents pack them with delicious meals and little treats for our little ones, with much thought going into nutrition and the needs of our growing kids?
“Many children grow up unable to make decisions because they have had little experience in doing so. Teaching decision making greatly benefits them in life,” Carmen Jochmann, parenting writer and educator, adds. Lunchboxes present situations to children in which they can make decisions for themselves as to who to eat lunch with, what to eat first, and so on.
One child who has enjoyed this freedom to choose is Xyriel Manabat, an empowered child star. She played both the young Agua and Bendita in the hit TV series Agua Bendita, and now has her own show Momay. One of her empowered choices is her decision, made with the guidance of her parents, to continue being a regular student in a normal school setting, balancing this with the fame she now enjoys.
