Shaping up for breast cancer awareness
MANILA, Philippines - All the women in the world are at risk of fighting the big battle against breast cancer. It is not a walk in the park, but big steps are being taken for breast cancer awareness because this disease, especially when detected early, can be cured.
The Philippines currently has the highest incidence of breast cancer in Southeast Asia — and the ninth highest incidence in the world. As a sign of support to promote greater awareness and women empowerment, hundreds of Filipinos recently participated in a special walk for breast cancer awareness at the Eastwood Citywalk II. Students, professionals, running communities, and people from all walks of life made the initial strides towards winning the big fight.
The event was part of the Skechers Shape-ups campaign for breast cancer awareness, where participants of the walk not only showed their support for the cause but also attended the launch of the Shape-ups Awareness shoe in the Philippines. Skechers acknowledges the importance of extensive information dissemination and access to quality and affordable healthcare as it pioneers a healthy lifestyle in its innovations.
Skechers recently launched its limited-edition Shape-ups Awareness shoe, specifically designed to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its distinct pink ribbon and help make a difference in the lives of Filipinas with breast cancer.
A revolutionary fitness shoe, Shape-ups Awareness shoe incorporates the importance of healthy living and a fitter lifestyle in its designs. Its soft kinetic wedge and rocker bottom technology simulates walking on soft sand and thus provides “a constant natural instability that activates every muscle with every step.” Shape-ups gives the wearer more comfort and many health benefits such as promoting weight loss, toning legs and buttocks, improving posture, reducing stress on the knees and ankles.
For every shoe purchased, Skechers will donate $10 to I Can Serve Foundation, a non-profit organization that empowers women with breast cancer by providing breast health care and breast cancer information to Filipinas. It promotes early breast cancer detection through comprehensive community-based cancer screening programs that include access to affordable care. With its flagship effort “Ating Dibdibin” (Take Your Breast Care to Heart), women are encouraged to take charge of their health by fighting ignorance and fear that women have of cancer. Renowned celebrities like Lea Salonga and Dawn Zulueta are known advocates of the I Can Serve program.
Shape-Ups Awareness shoes are available at P4,750 at Skechers stores in TriNoma, Glorietta 5, Market! Market!, Festival Supermall, Marquee Mall, Ayala Center Cebu, and leading department stores nationwide.
