Preventing adult dental problems in childhood

-

MANILA, Philippines - It’s never too early to see the dentist.

“Getting dental care for children makes way for a lifetime of health,” says Dr. Steve Mark Gan of Gan Advanced Osseointegration Center (GAOC), a dental center that specializes in dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, and general dentistry. “Most people think that going to the dentist isn’t essential for children since they eventually grow out their primary teeth. On the contrary, one of its main functions is preparing the gums for permanent teeth and facilitating proper nutrition.”

Gan stresses that making dental care a habit is key to preventing many adult dental problems. As such, the importance of dental care should be impressed early on. Dr. Gan prescribes visiting the dentist by the child’s first birthday or within six months of the first tooth.

Pediatric dentistry also tackles adolescent dental problems. According to Gan, aside from correcting misaligned teeth that may cause nerve or muscle pain, procedures such as braces and wisdom tooth extraction help teens with appearance and self-image.
