PWU marks Nutrition Month

MANILA, Philippines – The School of Nutrition of the Philippine Women’s University (PWU) marks Nutrition Month with a seminar on the theme “Eating a Healthy Diet + Engaging in Regular Physical Activity = Healthy Preschoolers” at the Conrado Benitez Hall, Taft campus, Manila.

The seminar, set for tomorrow, July 21, opens with a welcome address by VP for academic affairs Dr. Vivien Talisayon, followed by an inspirational message by CEO and board trustee Alfredo B. Reyes.

Keynote speaker is Dr. Jaime Montoya, director of the Philippine Council for Health Research of DOST, who will talk on “Research Priorities in Child Health” while Director Mario Capanzana of Food and Nutrition Research Institute will discuss “The 7th National Nutrition Survey Highlights on the Nutritional Status of Infants.”

Dr. Cecilia Santos-Acuin of the National Institute of Health of UP will talk on “Complementary Feeding for the Underweight and Overweight Infants” while Dr. Consuelo Suarez of the College of Rehabilitation Science of UST will expound on “Physical Activity in Growth and Development.”

In the afternoon session, the speakers are Joy Noree Maramba of PWU (“Low-Cost Complementary Feeding Strategies”), Wilfredo Bejar of Asian Baking Institute (“Baked Snacks for Young Children: A Cooking Demonstration”), and Dave Clark Sison of PWU Nutrition Clinic (“Nutritional Assessment of Infants and Preschoolers”).

Dean Dr. Leonora Panlasigui of the PWU School of Nutrition said the seminar “will help educate not only the PWU community but also other students and health care professionals on appropriate complementary feeding practices in achieving optimum growth and development among children.”
