E-dictionary: The latest word in learning

MANILA, Philippines - Young mom Gigi Ngui is one of millions of career mothers in the country. Aside from being a successful businesswoman for almost 17 years now, Gigi is proud that she is a hands-on mom, putting extra effort in taking care of her kids while supervising the very demanding family business as distributors of IT, appliances, and office furniture, alongside her husband.  Because of a thriving business career, Gigi admits that she has to put more effort into spending time with her family.

“I have three energetic kids aged 17, 16, and 12. Audrey is 17 and in 4th year high school. Axel is 16 and in 3rd year.  After school, he trains for the youth national team in swimming.  My youngest, Andrea, is 12 and is also beginning to discover life in competitive sports,” she enumerates.

“More often than not, we get to spend time only during weekends. My weekdays usually end late, but my husband and I still make sure that our evenings are free for our children. However, that leaves us little time to help them with school work as their study time is in the afternoon or early evening.”

With this predicament, Gigi decided to give her kids a learning advantage with a handy gadget called the Franklin MWD1500 Electronic Dictionary and Thesaurus.

“The E-dictionary is a big help to a busy businesswoman mom like me. My children learn more independently and do not need tutors. Because of its features, doing school reports or reading technical books for a lesson the next day is easier since they can easily get help with word meanings and correct spelling,” she reveals.

The Franklin E-dictionary has over 300,000 definitions and 500,000 synonyms registered in its data base, including new words coined during the technology era.

Gigi was very satisfied with another unique feature of The Franklin E-dictionary, which is its phonetic spell correction. “The feature is useful especially for my youngest child. Since she’s unfamiliar with some words she encounters in school, all she has to do is type the word according to how she heard it and the correct spelling will instantly flash on the screen.”

For moms who wish to control the use of the Internet during study hours, the Franklin E-dictionary offers an alternative to kids who usually use online dictionaries.

“Kids get tempted to visit social networking sites or browse other sites when going online to look for the meaning of words. With the Franklin E-dictionary, they get what they need instantly even without going online. And even if there are online dictionaries, they don’t have a spelling check feature which is very useful for my kids.”

The businesswoman mom is also impressed with the Franklin E-dictionary since it’s also useful to her. “The features come very handy especially when I draft business papers such as sales reports, business letters, etc.”
