Helping parents prepare their preschoolers

-

MANILA, Philippines - Pre-school experiences can set the tone for the rest of a child’s life. But how can parents assess their children’s skills and help them advance towards readiness for pre-school?

According to Dr. Leticia Peñano-Ho, clinical psychologist, professor, and former dean at the UP College of Education, it is important to make sure that children are socially competent.

“When they are socially competent, even at a young age, they can be left with the teacher who can work with them. Being socially competent means feeling good about themselves and knowing that they can trust their parents,” she shares.

Dr. Leticia Peñano-Ho and other childhood educators and specialists shared valuable tips at Minds in Progress, a series of learning events that provided parents with expert guidance on optimizing their children’s learning abilities. Organized by Wyeth, Minds in Progress helped parents equip their kids with the proper tools and the right attitude to help them do well in the classroom and beyond. Minds in Progress focuses on helping parents maximize their child’s formative years because this is when they learn best.
