Paeng Nepomuceno is having a bowl
MANILA, Philippines - While the Philippines is still dreaming of its first Olympic gold medal, international bowling legend Paeng Nepomuceno is rallying for his beloved sport to be officially included in the biggest athletic event in the world.
“Bowling will always be my preferred sport,” says the globally renowned sports icon. “At this point in my career, more than winning competitions or receiving awards, what I ultimately want to achieve is to make bowling an officially recognized sport in the Olympics.”
Bowling is one of the most widely played sports in the world with at least 100 million people from all continents regularly engaging in it. However, the fun bowling gives becomes a downside because it is often viewed as leisure or recreation rather than an athletic endeavor.
This is what Paeng aspires to change and in this year’s World Bowling Cup — he aims to get Filipino bowling enthusiasts as allies in this cause. “Bowling is truly an Olympic sport. It entails mental and physical precision, superior hand-eye coordination, unwavering muscle memory, and tremendous stamina and endurance.”
Recently, Paeng received the Mort Luby Jr. Distinguished Service given by the World Bowling Writers — an international association of tenpin bowling journalists, PR practitioners, industry leaders, and bowling federation officials. As the international ambassador of the United States Bowling Congress, he has been going around the world to train and certify bowling coaches, which would have been costly on their end if they do it on their own.
Believing in Paeng’s vision, dietary supplements global leader Nutrilite is extending support as the biggest sponsor of the Philippine round of the World Bowling Cup.
“Nutrilite is known to support record-holding sportsmen and sportswomen around the world and Paeng is undoubtedly this country’s greatest athlete,” says Nutrilite brand manager Joy Andres-Villareal. “As our brand ambassador, Paeng reflects our values and by promoting sports, he also becomes a vanguard of health. We also believe that supporting initiatives such as the World Bowling Cup will give birth to the next Filipino bowling prodigy.”
“Just like any other athlete, a bowler needs to be in tip-top shape to remain competitive,” says Paeng. “Personally, I watch my diet and follow a regular exercise regimen to achieve optimal health.”
Paeng recalls that a few years back, he agreed to be photographed shirtless to show his toned body and convey the message that bowlers need to stay fit and healthy.
Paeng runs and cycles to improve his stamina, and lifts weights to increase his strength. As for his diet, he stays away from fatty foods and makes a conscious effort to eat healthy. He also takes his daily dose of Nutrilite Double X, a revolutionary and organic dietary supplement power-packed with vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients.
