MOVE it!

-

MANILA, Philippines – MOVE Manila Run ’09 gets moving on Sunday, July 19 at 5 a.m. at the UP Diliman grounds. This caps the nationwide celebration of the 31st National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week. This is the first time the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM) is taking the run to Manila, having had the first three benefit runs in the Visayas (Cebu and Bacolod).

PARM, established in 1974, is composed of medical doctors called physiatrists specializing and trained in physical and rehabilitation medicine. Under the presidency of Dr. Reynaldo Rey-Matias, PARM adopted MOVE as one of its national advocacies.

This year, PARM launches in Manila the MOVE (Making Ourselves Vigilant to Exercise) advocacy, which combines a run for exercise awareness in the community with a fundraising activity for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) known as the PARM FUND (Fund for the Upliftment of the Needy Disabled). Through this, PARM is able to provide for the rehabilitation and wellness needs of indigent Filipinos.

There will be three categories each for the 2.2 fun run-walk, 5 km and 10 km races — men, women, and wheelchair. This year, a good number of wheelchair athletes are expected to participate in the event.

Medals and gift prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers for all categories. Cash prizes will be given to the 10 km race top three finishers.

For further information on registration and sponsorship, call PARM Secretariat (Lei or Jane) at 415-9048, Dr. Renald Ramiro at 09173209198 or Dr. Melissa Mercado at 09194138852.
