Learning activities kids can enjoy this summer
MANILA, Philippines - Children can learn a lot while having fun this summer, according to UK-based international preschool Tumble Tots.
Tumble Tots offers children a fruitful summer through various courses for kids 1.6 to eight years old. The courses include Itsy Bitsy Explorers, Phonics Come to Life, Discovery Camp, Artists’ Studio, and Let’s Speak Mandarin.
Itsy Bitsy Explorers for 1.6 to 2.5-year-olds makes kids learn basic concepts and adjust to classroom routines that are seamlessly integrated in storytelling, painting, crafts, parent visits, and Smart Play.
On the other hand, Discovery Camp 1 & 2 for 2.6 to six- year-olds introduces children to unique hands-on activities that make science and math a fun-tastic experience. Children unravel the natural world’s amazing secrets as they explore, experiment, and learn new skills.
Artists’ Studio for four- to eight-year-olds stirs the children’s imagination while learning basic drawing, painting, sculpture, and other crafts. Creativity and self-expression flourish when they work with varied mediums such as oil pastels, crayons, color pencils, watercolor, tempera paint, fabric paint, clay, pen and ink, fabric mache, terra-cotta sculpture, and more.
Likewise, Let’s Speak Mandarin for three- to eight-year-olds lets children discover the joy of learning a new language using a dazzling new range of lessons supplemented with exciting and enjoyable activities involving images, graphics, and sounds.
Phonics Come to Life Level 1 and Level 2 for 2.6 to six-year-olds take kids to Letterland, where letters come to life through songs, stories, games, and arts and crafts. Level 1 introduces children to the friendly letter characters as they learn how letter shapes correspond to sounds, while Level 2 builds children’s literacy skills through the mastery of letter sounds, writing letters and words, and reading simple words and short selections.
“Letterland makes learning letter sounds fun. In Letterland, letters have good reasons for behaving the way they do. And children love knowing why. It is much more fun to learn that Harry Hat Man whispers ‘hhh’ in words because he ‘hates’ noise, than to remember that ‘aitch’ makes the sound ‘hhh’. Children who have been introduced to Letterland at an early age shows reading skills two years ahead of their actual age. They identify letters and start reading within the first two weeks of class,” says managing director Dyan Joyce Bian-Cortez.
Originating from the UK in 1968, Letterland is a systematic phonic literacy resource that has been helping children learn to read and write for over 40 years.
“Recent brain imaging research suggests that Letterland is very successful because it is able to link phonic information directly to a child’s long-term memory. Children as young as one year old are captivated by the colorful friendly characters and only Letterland is able to stimulate children at such an early age,” Cortez adds.
“Letterland works by capturing children’s interest and attention. Children relate to characters like Bouncy Ben, Harry Hat Man, Sammy Snake, and Talking Tess as friends. So learning about them feels like play. Yet they are laying solid foundations for successful reading. Why? Because all the information that your child needs is embedded in the Letterland characters,” Cortez explains.
Enrolment for these summer courses is ongoing. Tumble Tots is also accepting students for School Year 2009-2010 (toddler, nursery, kinder, and prep).
