A tea-licious way to de-stress

- Jennifer Ong -

Stress is the headache of our time. We blame everything on it — being over anxious, over fatigued, overweight, and so on.  We also associate stress with work since the latter usually demands a lot of mental energy, clarity, and focus. In fact, in this workaday world, people spend a good part of the day thinking and thinking some more until perhaps, they can think no more.

This endless surge of mental activity does take its toll. And when it does, people are hard-pressed to find ways to make life a bit more livable. Well, honestly, getting a bit more breathing room can be just as simple as making yourself a soothing cup of tea — make that hot Lipton tea.

Yes, the goodness of tea stays fresh in every cup of hot Lipton tea. Lipton has making these tea-liciously potent drinks since 1890 when its founder Sir Thomas Lipton opened his first tea estate in Ceylon. Since then, Lipton has ventured further out into the world of tea. And why not? It is a beverage so full of nutritional and tasteful mysteries.

Tea is a drink full of wellness. A beverage that has been sipped for centuries, tea is considered a digestive, a cure or simply a sensual delight. And now, after all the good things that have been said about tea, the experts have made another heady discovery: Tea is also the ultimate stress reliever.

The main reason for this is that tea is rich in theanine, an amino acid that helps us in two ways. First, it actually puts our minds in a relaxed state, keeping all that stress (and anxiety) away. At the same time, theanine promotes mental focus, freeing our minds from all the unnecessary distractions around the workplace. And when you’re finally free of all that clutter and stress, you can definitely get work done better and faster. And that is what Lipton calls getting into the zone.

To promote better mental focus at work, Lipton has launched the Get in the Zone campaign, whose main mission is to let people know more about the stress-relieving powers of hot tea. In fact, experts encourage people to drink as much as eight cups of hot tea every day to reap a lot of its goodness and benefits. And with Lipton tea, this is as simple as keeping a few tea bags on your desk.

It’s also good to know that when you’re sipping tea, you’re not just relieving yourself of stress; you’re making your body healthier as well. As you probably know, tea (especially green tea) is rich in antioxidants that protect the body from life-threatening diseases such as cancer. Tea is also reported to boost one’s metabolic rate, burning energy faster while helping keep your body fit and slim. And even more good news is that studies have shown that drinking tea helps prevent diabetes. Now, clearly, there’s nothing in tea that’s not to love!

In today’s rat race, the state of our health should be uppermost in our minds.  While some of us live for life’s challenges, there comes a time when too much becomes, uh, just too much. That’s when it’s time to stop and take a breather. Now count to three, bring out that Lipton, and get in the zone.
