PCFA conducts medial, dental mission in Pampanga

The Community Development for Indigenous People (CDIP) is one of the programs and services of the Philippine Children's Fund of America. As part of the support system for the community, medical and dental care is provided to assure the health of every individual especially the children. Responding to this need, a Medical, Dental Mission and "Operation Tule (circumcision)" was conducted last April 22 at Sitio Monicayo, Brgy. Calumpang, Mabalacat, Pampanga. A total of 250 less privileged children as well as their families benefited from this program.

This event was made possible through the support of PCFA's consistent partner, the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Fraternity and Sorority - Pampanga Alumni Association headed by Brother Roby Cato and the Philippine Air Force Medical Team through Brig. Gen. Edwin Lllanto, Clark Air Base Wing Commander. Doctors Joel Pantig and Roniel Magat, both APO alumni from the Theta Delta Chapter-AUF also joined the team to be of service for the people. Several medical students from Angeles University Foundation Medical School also helped in diagnosing and treating some minor ailments of the Aetas, with the assistance of the Youth Community Service Club members from AUF, Holy Angel University and System Plus College Foundation in Angeles City.

Furthermore, sponsors of this activity were some pharmaceutical companies like Pediatrica, Pharmatechnica, Wyeth Suaco, Asttra Zeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, which donated medicines to augment other solicited drugs from Manson Drug and Manila Councilor Ruben Buenaventura, who provided anesthesia for the dental patients.

The event was followed by a short acknowledgment program led by Barangay Chairman Ruben Sison, an Aeta himself, who thanked PCFA and all the groups in behalf of his Aeta constituents, who made the activity a success. He noted that the community benefited a lot and appreciated the support they acquired for free, especially now that the cost for medical, dental and circumcision including medicines is prohibitive.
Erik Gomez, PCFA executive director, also graced the activity and in his message he informed the crowd that the Medical, Dental and Circumcision activity was only one of the organization's commitment for the community, which is an addition to the two working deep wells donated by PCFA that presently supply the community with potable water as well as the livelihood programs being implemented through the Mother's Association. .
