-
Osteoporosis authority Pierre D. Delmas, M.D. Ph.D., visits Manila on October 25, 2001 to share his expertise on this debilitating disease in a scientific symposium entitled "Latest Advances in the Treatment of Osteoporosis: Improved Patient Convenience." Professor Delmas, President of the Board of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), will speak during the 3rd annual meeting of the Osteoporosis Society of the Philippines Foundation, Inc. (OSPFI).

Professor Delmas is a Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at the Universite Claude Bernard of Lyon, France and Director of the INSERM Research Unit 403 on Pathophysiology of Osteoporosis at the Hospital Edouard Herriot of Lyon. INSERM is the French National Institute for Medical Research. Prof. Delmas directs basic and clinical research programs in the field of metabolic diseases, with a special interest for osteoporosis and metastatic bone disease.

As rheumatologist, Professor Delmas has made the battle against osteoporosis his personal cause. He conducts research activities in osteoarthritis and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents and is actively involved in the development of educational programs on osteoporosis. In the symposium, Professor Delmas presents the latest advances in the treatment of this dreaded bone disease, including the convenience of the recently developed once-weekly regimen with alendronate sodium.

The OSPFI symposium on osteoporosis will be on October 25, 2001, at 5:30 p.m., at the Rizal Ballroom of the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati.
