End of an affair

Dear Tita Chits,

I am 47 years old, a semi-retired architect and I am gay. After working 16 years in Saipan, I came home for good. I am now based in Aklan, where I have a little buy-and-sell business with my brother. We also tend to a small farmland. I only go to Manila for my medical check-up. I suffer from diabetes and I have a kidney ailment.

Recently, I met a 19-year-old boy, a college student in town. I became close to him and we had an active sex life. I gave him a weekly allowance and supported his financial needs. I also urged him to have a girlfriend so he would have a normal life.

Last January, he got sick with Hepatitis B and had to be hospitalized for 14 days. He asked for my help and I gave him P5,000.

When my brother found out what I had done, he told me that my young man had a girlfriend. I confronted my boyfriend about this, he denied it and we continued with our relationship. I even bought him a cellphone and clothes for his prom.

Then one day, he told me that he had a girlfriend and worse, she was two-months pregnant!

I was devastated. I decided to go to Manila to try and forget him. I went for my usual medical checkup and my doctor informed me that I had Hepatitis B.

I realize I have made several mistakes. I bear no ill-feelings toward anybody and I am trying to forget. Please advise me on what I should do. – Len

Dear Len,

It is good that you consider your experience an important lesson in life. You are asking me what to do now. I noticed you haven’t attended to your career. Why don’t you concentrate on your line of work – architecture.

Ask God to help you succeed in your projects. This is the same advice I would give to any person who has experienced heartbreak. Live for your work and forget all else. This way, you won’t be bothered by loneliness and hunger for companionship.
