Muji Shangri-La unveils eco-friendly store design

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Japanese lifestyle brand Muji opened the doors of its sixth store at Level 4 of the Shangri-La Plaza East Wing. The new store welcomed excited customers to a unique, eco-friendly store design to highlight Muji’s constant efforts to care for the environment.

The new store spans a 465-square-meter floor area filled with regular bestsellers such as compact PET bottles, sturdy PP boxes, travel neck cushions, heavenly feather pillows and assorted stationery items. Muji Shangri-La also carries a new batch of arrivals from the spring-summer 2013 collection of home fabrics and men’s and ladies’ garments made of light cotton and linen materials.

Muji’s roster of functional lifestyle items is a line of products from streamlined processes with zero to minimal waste to practice Muji’s philosophy in active environment conservation.

Muji Shangri-La’s design puts the spotlight on recycled wood as the main cladding material inside the store. Selected stores in Japan follow the same concept and practice by reusing wood bits from Muji’s old stores and construction materials. In effect, Muji Shangri-La exudes a natural, warmer ambience reminiscent of a comfortable lounge or a toasty cabin. The use of recycled wood also adds details and texture to the store’s look, with an interesting and subtle twist without breaking the clean and minimalist design strength of Muji.

The eco-friendly store design supports Muji’s frequent projects to care for the environment. Through the years, Muji offers products made of recycled materials such as polypropylene plastic and recently sourced materials like the natural dye from Cambodia and organic cotton from Egypt, India and Tanzania.  With the unveiling of Muji Shangri-La’s new store design clad in recycled wood, Muji emphasizes the numerous possibilities of reusing, recycling materials and reducing overall waste in the long run.

In the Philippines, Muji is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI) and located at Shangri-la Plaza East Wing, Robinsons Magnolia, Bonifacio High Street, Power Plant Mall at Rockwell Center, Greenbelt 3 and SM Mall of Asia. Muji is open for a limited time only in Alabang Town Center and 158-Designers’ Blvd at The Podium.
