Life in the time of the smartphone

Chonx Tibajia - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Connectivity has its perks. In the age of the smartphone, relationships have become easier to create and keep. You can keep in touch with loved ones on other continents; you can even keep tabs on what the Curiosity Rover is up to on Mars. You can sync your whole life to another person’s without breaking a sweat –– a few cents from your credit card is all you need. Fact is, no matter what them old-school folk say, life has become a lot more interesting, almost sci-fairytale-like, with the smartphone.

In the past, an affordable smartphone only allowed you a modest sampling of these perks. Now, you can afford one that delivers exactly what you need to suit your needs with Samsung’s affordable range of phones that complement its top-of-the-line models –– something Pinoys, being all about staying in touch with family and friends, will value.

The brand recently launched four value-for-money smartphones via a game show-inspired event called “The Right Surprice” at K-Pub Korean BBQ at The Fort Strip. Host Magic 89.9 DJ Sam YG called on guests to guess the right price of items ranging from vacation packages to cars to masking tape. Samsung gave away a Samsung Galaxy S Duos, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Win, and Galaxy Grand to four lucky contestants who guessed the prices of the phones correctly in the final round.

Samsung Mobile’s business unit director Eric Sulit says, “In this day and age, we believe everyone deserves to have a smartphone. We at Samsung are always on the lookout to bring technology to the hands of as many Filipinos as possible, and these Samsung large-screen, dual-SIM smartphones are our way of making this vision happen.”

Dubbed the Smart Choice Series, the four models introduced during the launch include the Samsung Galaxy S Duos, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Win and Galaxy Grand.

Samsung’s Galaxy S Duos is equipped with frequently used smartphone features and more. It runs on Android 4.1 Ice Cream Sandwich, has a 5-megapixel rear camera, built-in organizer, a photo and video editor, as well as a document viewer. Its memory is expandable to 32GB via microSD.

The Samsung Galaxy Core is a 4.3-inch handset equipped with a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front camera, an 8GB internal storage and a microSD slot, as well as Motion UI, Smart Stay, Smart Alert, and S Voice.

The Galaxy Win has a 1.2 GhZ Quad Core fast processor, a 4.7-inch screen, advanced usability with smart features and an FM radio tuner.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand is the choice for multi-taskers. It has a 5-inch screen, an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, a multi-window feature that allows users to multi-task while browsing, and like the other three models, allows use of two active SIM cards.

What would life be like if everyone could have a smartphone? Now we don’t need to imagine –– with Samsung’s Smart Choice Series, this could be a not-so-distant reality.
