Object of desire

- Ching M. Alano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - You know you want one. Or maybe you already have one. But you want something better but cheaper (which often don’t exist in the same sentence but just you wait and see), something sleeker, thinner, and will not let you down and keep you on top of things. No, you don’t just want it, you desire it with all your heart. Hello! Now, you can have it in a heartbeat.

Surely, HTC Desire V is easily everybody’s object of desire. It’s lightweight (you can squeeze it into your heavily cluttered tote), handier, and elegant you wouldn’t be embarrassed whipping it out when you’re in the company of your iPad or iPhone-toting (or both) girl friends. To sidetrack a bit, speaking of iPhones, the irrepressible Ellen Degeneres once said on her TV show that technology is changing so fast, we’re compelled to keep upgrading our gadgets. The truth is, all she really needs is a sturdy taco shell or tortilla to support the weight of the taco filling. She added that she was pretty content with her iPhone 4S until iPhone 5 came along and she realized that 4S really meant 4 Suckers.

And it’s one of the cheapest Ice Cream Sandwich phones (P10,990) on the market today. Cool! Most people start with lower phones and they work their way up (for me, that means busting my butt so I can save more and aspire for a better phone). And then they aspire for a smarter phone, they want to convert to HTC. Then they want to upgrade to a better smartphone — better in quality and style without necessarily paying a lot more.

HTC’s quietly brilliant smartphones are essentially for the tech-savvy and for those who do social networking (which is nearly everybody today) — Internet, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Deliciously clear: Food shots taken with HTC Desire V in Ontario, Canada

That’s where HTC smartphones want to be, so an HTC executive noted at the launch of HTC Desire V, by sourcing the best materials and reaching out nationwide.

What makes HTC Desire V doubly cool is it’s got a dual SIM (priced at P16,990). Now, you don’t have to opt for a cheap secondary phone. And these days, as most people have more than one cellphone number, to have a smartphone that is light but quite a heavyweight in that it’s complete with all the apps you need is very practical — a very smart move indeed.

For the dual SIM, if you have 3G (paid Internet service from network), you should put it in slot 1. Otherwise, you put the SIM in slot 2, which is good because at least you would be using the right SIM and service. Also, you won’t overspend on 3G.

You can also browse and choose  from hundreds of apps from the HTC Hub.

In addition, what makes this smartphone click is its camera. It’s clear, quick, and easy to use.

And listen: It’s beats audio empowered so sound is really great.

It’s got the HTC car app, which is convenient for people who multi-task (which is most people).

What’s also impressive about HTC Desire V is the transfer app, which takes away the trouble of transferring or moving contacts, SMS, and calendar events to your new HTC phone via Bluetooth. There’s a high enough phone memory, too.

I find the flashlight really helpful — it’s so bright you can use it if there’s a brownout or as reading light to save on energy, or when looking for your seat in a dark theater.
