The plans of my life
MANILA, Philippines - It’s a Friday morning. It’s 5 a.m. I am awake.
Before I do anything else I reach for my BlackBerry cell phone, which I always lay in the trundle bed where my doggies sleep and look at what e-mail has come in.
When I notice the led light blinking red, it is a sign that some new messages and e-mail have come in.
I check who sent what and then I lie back in bed for another 30 minutes before I get up to start my day.
It’s just the way I am wired. I like to know what the working day holds for me before I even start… or at least before I even stand up.
It is my day off and I am minding my own life when I spot a cute doggie walking in the village. I pull out my cell phone, take a shot and then tweet it. Surely it is not earthshaking news — neither is it something that would get a wild reaction, nonetheless the doggie catches my fancy and it makes me happy to be able to share the photo with my loyal Twitter followers.
My brother and his family spent the Holy Week break in a rustic hideaway in Quezon. They share with me the joys of surfing through BBM. I get a few photos, too. And, from the updates on their BBM statuses it seems that they are having a grand time.
Never missing a beat, that is what my life is about. And, no, I am not the type to text during meals; I find it rude. Neither would I exchange a real-life conversation for a texting one.
That said, I appreciate just how connected I can always be because I have my postpaid data plan with Globe, which I have had for over 10 years now. I am what Globe calls a loyal sub. That’s because with Globe I have been able to stay more and more connected as it makes keeping connections much easier.
My Time, My Connection
Back in the day when I got my first cell phone there were no “unli” this and “unli” that. There were just plans and rates that one would pay on a monthly basis.
But, as times changed and ways of communication evolved, so did the plans that Globe offered. It is funny that I needed to be called and briefed by a customer service rep so that I would understand what the unli plan was.
“My Super Plan Unli Surf Combo is designed for tech-savvy subscribers who want to make the most out of their smartphone devices. Through our portfolio of unlimited data plans, they can enjoy mobile surfing all they want, wherever they are and whatever time of the day,” said Martha Sazon, head of Globe postpaid.
“How do you know what plan to get?” I was asked recently. “Pick one that best suits your needs, “ I replied.
“How do I know what that is?” came the quick retort.
“I guess it depends on what you like to do on your phone.”
That got me to thinking.
For work I like to check on my e-mail regularly. I don’t download the contents of the e-mail unless it is necessary, but if I get a text asking if I received the e-mail, I can reply ASAP. That makes me happy.
There have been times when I have been asked by my editor if we were able to make a correction on one of the articles. I have been able to respond to her quickly because I checked the correction, with the e-mailed article — all on my BB.
Just recently I was informed that the postpaid plans remove the horrors of a bill that may be way too high. I remember a few years back when I was deathly scared of opening an e-mail with my BB because it would cost an arm and a leg. That is no longer the case with Globe’s Unli plans.
Globe My Super Plan Unli Surf Combo gives me uninterrupted mobile surfing. As a BlackBerry user, I subscribed to My Super Plan BlackBerry Unli Surf Combo. I was happy to know there’s a dedicated BlackBerry plan available.
Since I am not a web surfer and my needs for connecting are largely limited to checking e-mail, tweeting and the occasional Facebook connecting, I know that my needs can be quickly met with the right Globe plan.
Creating my own My Super Plan Unli Surf Combo was easy. I selected my choice plan, all of which came with unlimited data. My Super Plan Unli Surf Combo from Globe is available in the following monthly subscriptions: P999, P1,799, P2,499 and P3,799. For as low as P999 a month, subscribers can browse, chat, stream videos, e-mail, and post updates on their favorite social networking sites without having to pay additional fees or fearing bill shock.
Connect Away
When I know that I will get my e-mail no matter where I may be it is a great source of comfort for me. Staying BBM-connected with my family and very close friends is just great.
Heejun Han was my fave American Idol contestant this season. Although he made it to the top 10, he got eliminated early.
I used my Unli Surf combo a little more this month as I watched his performances on YouTube as I was driving. And I connected to the web on the days when I knew that the eliminated contestant would be announced.
That is what a personal plan is all about. Sure, I stay true to how I regularly use my BB, but there are days when I know I can connect even if it is outside my plan.
And for Heejun Han it was worth all the connections made.
