Across the hue-niverse
Huxley. Orwell. Maybe they got it wrong. In all the book illustrations or movie adaptations of their dystopian classics, the future is depicted as drab, bland and depressingly all-gray. But here we are in this brave new world, decades away from 1984; our tomorrows are not as bleak as they used to be. Just look at the latest notebooks by Asus and you’ll see how kaleidoscopic and luminous the colors are: passionate red, seduction pink, urban green, party gold, and chill blue.
Asus recently launched its new line of K Series laptops and Eee Pad at the New World Hotel Palladium.
The stylishly redesigned K Series Notebooks are, according to Asus deputy marketing manager Jamie Anne Ysrael, “not just techie pieces, but are fashion accessories also.”
“This is in line with the brand’s thrust of making life better through innovation,” Ysrael explains.
“And we don’t give you just color,” stresses product manager for systems business corp. Michelle Tan, “we give you technology.”
The tale of the tape: New K Series notebooks from Asus deliver the power of second generation mobile Intel Core processors and discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 500 series graphics. These specifications result in a greatly accelerated computing experience, with particular performance gains in multitasking, multimedia and gaming. Their 32nm fabrication, low power requirements extend the battery life of Asus K Series notebooks for enhanced usability. The inclusion of exclusive Asus IceCool technology provides users with an extra-comfortable typing experience, as palm rests remain cool at all times.
The Asus executives will tell you, gaming performance with the latest titles on the K Series exceeds that of competing notebooks in the same segment.
There is also this: the amazing transforming Asus Eee Pad — half-tablet, half laptop.
According to Asus reps, “The Transformer sets itself apart from other tablets in the market by featuring an optional docking station. This provides access to a full QWERTY keyboard along with unique Android Function keys, turning the tablet Transformer into a full-fledged notebook. Preloaded on the Transformer is Polaris Office 3.0, a professional Mobile Office Solution which enables users to edit various types of office documents including documents (.doc), spreadsheets (.xls) and presentation (.ppt) files, making the Transformer very attractive for professional use. A touchpad, 3.5mm audio jack, two USB ports as well as a built-in SD Card reader for easy file sharing and storage expandability makes the Transformer a versatile media hub. In addition, the ultra-convenient Asus WebStorage with one year of unlimited storage space provides worry-free cloud computing. The docking station also extends the Transformer’s 9.5 hours of battery life up to 16 hours, so users can use it all day for work and play.”
You can browse the Net (hurried along by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor), listen to Radiohead’s “King of Limbs” (via the SRS Sound technology’s 3-D stereo experience), record videos and watch movies (Focus Features flicks in HDMI). The key is this: use the tablet as a mobile entertainment device, transform it into a notebook, and then go write your views on something you heard or saw.
If they had these gadgets during their time, Huxley and Orwell probably wouldn’t have been so damn dour.
