Samsung Galaxy: The fab tab

- Ching M. Alano -

MANILA, Philippines - There were stars — or should I say, a galaxy of stars — in our eyes when we got a sneak peek of the new Samsung Galaxy smart phones and tablets at the Samsung Regional Forum held recently at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

With its sights trained on one of its most dynamic regions — Southeast Asia/Oceania/Taiwan — Samsung unveiled a breathtaking array of new products that are bound to delight the heart and titillate the senses.

Certainly worth noting was the new Samsung Notebook Series 9, a premium notebook for those who want the best of everything: design, performance, usability. We couldn’t wait to get our hands on this chic notebook that weighs only 2.89 lbs. and measures only 16.3mm (that’s 1.64 inches) with a screen size of 13 inches.

Samsung Notebook Series 9 will surely send you to Cloud 9 with the latest in technology. It’ll drive you crazy with its aerodynamic and sleek design, much like that of a premium sports car.

And now, say hello to the spanking new members of Samsung’s family of Android-powered smart phones and tablets and meet them up close and personal:

Galaxy Ace. It’s an ace up your sleeve: a 3.5-inch HVGA display on a compact and comfortable handset, an 800MHz processor, Google Voice search, and ThinkFree document viewer.

Galaxy Fit. A perfect fit, it’s got a 3.31-inch QVGA display, an office viewer, and a 5MP camera ideal for social and professional use. Plus a smooth web browsing on the go with its 600 MHz processor.

Galaxy Gio. A hardworking phone, it runs on a 800 MHz processor and makes social networking a breeze.

Galaxy mini. It’s big on productivity and performance, boasting a 3.14-inch QVGA display and powered by a 600 MHz processor. It’s got mini more features: Google voice actions and Quick Office document viewer.

Galaxy Pro. A real pro, it’s a cutting-edge smart phone. It comes complete with Samsung’s Social Hub Premium, a dual-input control based on a touch screen, and QWERTY keyboard.

Powered by the Android 2.2 “Froyo” platform, Galaxy Pro gives you access to over 150,000 high-quality apps and services from Android Market. In plain language, that means you can customize your Galaxy Pro with the applications to suit your smart life. Like downloading the latest games to keep you entertained while on the road, using maps and location-based services to get you to your meeting on time and manage news feeds to get ahead of competition.

The message is loud and clear: Get ahead and stay on top of the game at work and at play — in your business life and social life.

And so that you can share your experiences with all of your networks, this really smart phone has a 3.0 megapixel camera for still photographs and video. Of course, WiFi/Bluetooth keeps you constantly connected. That’s the tooth and nothing but.

• Galaxy S II. Less is more, and you’ll discover a lot more with the world’s thinnest (only 8.49mm) smart phone that is Galaxy S II. But consider its big fat features: unmatched viewing experience, fast web browsing, multi-tasking comparable to a PC-like environment, supreme graphics quality, and instantly responsive 3D user interface on the large screen.

Here’s more: Powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the latest version of the world’s fastest-growing mobile operating system, Galaxy S II has access to Samsung’s four new content and entertainment hubs, seamlessly integrated to provide instant access to music, games, e-reading, and social networking services.

Galaxy Tab 10.1. This lean and mean tablet (weighing only 599 grams) is designed to deliver the ultimate in mobile entertainment experience. Picture this: a large 10.1-inch screen and dual surround-sound speakers, the better to enjoy multimedia functions without compromising mobility. Its 8 megapixel AF rear-facing and 2 megapixel front-facing cameras allow users to capture videos with full HD recording capabilities.

Yes, when you’re feeling under the weather, here’s a friendly prescription: Take a tablet — make that Galaxy Tab — and call your doctor in the morning.
