Globe and Northern Luzon schools to bring it on in Panagbenga
MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom gears up for a day of tosses, twists, turns and pyramids as elementary, high school and collegiate cheer dance squads from Baguio City, Benguet, La Union and Pangasinan compete for cheerleading supremacy in the 8th Globe Panagbenga Cheerleading Championships. The competition will be held today at the University of Baguio Cardinals gymnasium.
The annual Globe Panagbenga Cheerleading Championships is one of the official sports event of the 16th Baguio Flower Festival or Panagbenga. The competition is sanctioned by the Philippine Cheerleading Federation. A total of 14 schools are competing in this year’s cheerfest, with the SLU-Laboratory Elementary School, Baguio City National High School, and Saint Louis University seeking back to back titles for the elementary, high school, and college divisions respectively.
Competing teams must be composed of at least 15 to 30 members. Each team will do a 3.5-minute routine performed on a 14 x 14 meter area. A 30-second side cheer will also be required. Two-and-a-half-men high pyramids are allowed for high school and college squads, while elementary teams will be limited to two-men-high pyramids.
