Mapping out your adventures

MANILA, Philippines - For people who are always on the go, whether its work or play, its quite a hassle to always be asking for directions on the street about destinations you’ve never been to. Sometimes you wind up feeling lost, or you get information from people who are just as clueless as you are.

That’s exactly what Korean David Kim has not been doing — getting lost in a strange place. As Web and system integration department senior manager for Innovative Systems and Technology Alliance Inc., he moved to the Philippines with his family and instantly fell in love with the country.

“As a foreigner living in the Philippines, Manila (roads) can be overwhelming and really confusing. I used to rely on Google Map, but had to be online to access it, so I switched to Ovi Maps because it can be used offline. And thanks to Nokia Maps and Drive on Ovi Maps, which I installed on my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, getting around in a strange country is a breeze,” says David. “I love the drive function,” he adds. “The direction is almost always accurate; I could easily tell where I’m at and where I’m heading to.”

And he doesn’t mind getting out of his comfort zone because of it. He goes against the grain for most Koreans with Nokia, who usually prefer buying one of their own in terms of tech stuff. “I am very specific with the features and wanted to have a complete phone-package — one that is 3G capable, Wi-Fi capable, and has GPS. It’s also nice because of the touchscreen feature. On top of all of it, it is affordable. I thought that with the features compared to price, this is the best buy,” he said.

Ovi Maps is immediately available for download for 10 Nokia handsets, including the popular Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia E72, with more Nokia smartphones expected to be added in the coming weeks. In the meantime, current owners of Nokia smartphones that are compatible with the new Ovi Maps can download it free of charge from www.nokia.com/maps.
