Breakfast at Timothy's
MANILA, Philippines - To mark the birthday of the scene’s master of reinvention, Supreme editor and creative director, TV host and club owner Tim Yap chose as his theme “Change” — the year’s most meaningful buzzword — and staged his annual bash at the Mezzanine of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, followed by a five-course meal at Red at the same venue. Now, what kind of change did he make this time? The party, filled with nightlife’s most influential denizens and A-list celebrities and personalities, happened in the morning, thus the theme “Breakfast at Timothy’s.”
The mood at Red was austere yet joyful. It was relatively quiet compared to Tim’s usual flamboyant and fancy parties. People were dressed down and instead of a full on program for entertainment, guests mingled, happily celebrating a new morning with good food and fun friends. A great vibe — that is the common denominator in Tim’s parties.
Did the celebrant wake up in time for his own party? Yes, he can, and yes, he did. Tim Yap started his day taping for his new TV show for QTV-11 entitled Events Incorporated, which airs 
every Saturday at 6 p.m. starting Feb 28. Being the country’s top-of-mind eventologist makes him perfect for this reality-slash-lifestyle-slash-party show, along with the scene’s best events correspondent, Sam Oh. Together, they bring the hot, the hip and the happening to your boob tube every week. Let’s get this party started.
And so Tim’s party began with guests fresh and bright-eyed, all decked out and ready for breakfast. Ministry of Fun, Tim’s event company, decked out the Mezzanine of the Shang with violinists and musicians who played vintage and pop classics, including a jazzed-up version of Moon River, of course, inspired by the classic Audrey Hepburn romantic classic about the world’s oldest profession. A lot of the women arrived in their little black dresses, complete with pearls — recessionista chic to say the least. Others took the theme to a whole new level with the troika of Steph Zubiri, Alex Escat and Audrey Zubiri stealing the show, coming as different versions of Audrey within the movie! Karen Davila came in a micro-micro short white beaded number; other Audrey-inspired ladies were actress Iza Calzado in an up ‘do and black classic dress that made her look like a classic Hollywood star, and the STAR’s Regina Belmonte in her little white dress complete with black gloves! Charina Sarte came in an electric-blue ruffled dress, while Ruffa Gutierrez came wearing giant white ruffles! Phoemela Baranda donned a black and white satin dress while Bubbles Paraiso came dressed only in a bathrobe, again inspired by one of the film’s most classic moments! The men, on the other hand, came in light suits (inspired by George Peppard, perhaps?).
Tim Yap, clad in a gunmetal gray Dior Homme suit, arrived fashionably late but early during the day for a change, escorted by assorted Holly Golightlys styled by Jenni Epperson with hair and makeup by The Make Up Forum. Bloomwoods’ floral genius Mia Cabawatan spruced up Red with reds — the entire venue with vases filled with rouged blooms. Moet champagne and Freixenet Cava comprised the mimosas and bellinis that were served all throughout the day. Shangri-La Makati general manager Reto Klauser was there to personally make sure Tim’s guests were having a grand time as they enjoyed the multi-course brunch, capped with sweet endings — assorted pralines and Haagen Dazs ice cream in Tim’s favorite flavors — pistachio and green tea. Tim’s GMA and QTV family were fully present, as well as his Philippine STAR family, Embassy Super Club family (who came without sleep, we assume), and Team Supreme’s David Milan, Gino de la Paz and Jan Ong. The first guests were designers Rajo Laurel, Rhett Eala and Henri Calayag, who takes care of Tim’s hair. Since it was an early-morning affair, other celebrities brought their kids as well, making it one friendly family afternoon. There were even guests from Fashion TV, who flew in from Paris just to make it to the breakfast bash. The last guest who arrived was KC Concepcion who rushed to the party while on a brief break from the set of her latest film, When I Met You.
Midway through the party, Tim went around with his girls and gave away silver rings to his guests, as part of his commitment to being an instrument of positive change. The year 2009 is proving to be not just a year of positive change for Tim (he just finished his master’s in entrepreneurship at the Asian Institute of Management), but also a year of great blessings for Tim, as his list of endorsements is growing. Adding to his impressive list of endorsements and product offerings are brand ambassadorships for Greenwich Pizza, Oakley eyewear and The Bar. The party started at 9:30 a.m. and ended before sunset because Tim had to run to another event, on the day of his birthday!
Embassy’s DJ Mars Miranda spun his music and magic at Red, and guests all went home with a birthday basket composed of ZenZest vanilla perfume, bottles of The Bar in orange vodka and lime gin flavors and potted bamboo plants by Shirley Sanders — the bamboo plants being symbolic of Tim’s young and accomplished life — one that is green and growing, full of strength and flexibility during trying times, and one that is oh-so-full of life!
What’s next in Tim’s life? Let’s see — he just finished having his breakfast.
