Don’t have a pig (Have a cow instead)

POGI FROM A PARALLEL UNIVERSE - RJ Ledesma - The Philippine Star

You can blame it on the Neocolours. More particularly,  you can blame it on its former lead singer, Ito Rapadas (Mga ‘80s babies, volt in!).

When Ito griped about the government’s latest cholesterol-inducing scam on his Facebook page and prodded that we go to Luneta to air our kili-kili power against another travesty for the tax-paying Pinoy, it was reposted by his friends Monet Silvestere (musician) and Bernardo Bernardo (stage actor). Then Peachy Rallonza-Bretana, posted a “call to action” for the protest, which offered a date and venue.

And that was the day when ordinary citizens showed our government who was the boss.

From the well-heeled to the tsinelas-wearing no-heels. From the left to the right to somewhere in between. From the religious to the sacrilegious.  From the north to the south to somewhere tasteful. All the bosses showed up demanding the government to go on a pork-free diet. Because if they didn’t they would be shoving a cow up one of the government’s least favorite orifices.

So with my yaya and my magic backpack of Bimpo, face towel and baby powder in tow, we escaped the wilds of Manila Hotel, we waded and waddled to join the Luneta picnic. It was wet, it was wild, it was muddy. It was glorious.

There’s one thing I can say after Monday’s picnic: I’m glad that I am a vegetarian.
