Macho Picchu
MANILA, Philippines - Fashion and culture come together as Topman pays tribute to Aztec designs, pop patterns, indie scenes and even music legends with its autumn/winter 2012 collection.
In its Fresh Collection, clean finish and ’90s inspired sportswear make a big return. Featured are African prints with hints of the diversity of London’s Dalston. Style is influenced mainly by surf wear, early acid house music, the Memphis design movement, ’80s graffiti and comic art. Monochrome patterns blended with block color create solid silhouettes.
Sunshine states inspire a palette of bleached bright and rich vegetable dark tones in Palm Springs. The preppy theme takes on a grown-up and more sophisticated twist, taking the 1950s mood with conversational prints. Colors are sun-kissed with a hint of a vintage vibe. Favorite garments are washed out and tailored with fresh new pieces in saturated hues and updated with Ikat and other prints of South American origin.
The mystery and grandeur of Machu Picchu have been translated into a huge trend, blended with light-hearted pop patterns. For instance, spots are seen with Aztec prints while bold checks sit comfortably next to American blanket stripes. Patterned leggings are taken a step further to become a key bottom item side by side with non-denim trousers.
The ’90s indie scene in the communal living of Brighton’s leftfield crowd is revived in Brighton. Knits are mixed with vintage character tees, worn with statement shirts and roomy, shell-type coats. Motif shirts, space-dyed jersey and avant-garde jacquards tell a fun, folksy story.
Trellick tells the story about how cultures mix and blend in the toughest areas of London in the ’70s. Classic African prints are worn with stand-alone jackets, wool coats and shearling pieces. Black and white heritage melds with the musical genres of the era to create something interesting.
In the Kings Road trend, meanwhile, fashion glam pays tribute to ’70s musical marvels including Mick Jagger, David Bowie and The Faces. The decadent mix of deep-pile fabrics and alluring Lurex stand out with a little help from luxe trimmings and faux furs. Rich, jewel shades are used as solid tones and marbled together for prints. Snakeskin, jacquard stripes and luxurious, refined tweeds take center stage while ’70s-inspired tailoring revisits the season through Topman’s latest collection.
