Winter is Coming: ‘Game of Thrones’-inspired whisky to launch in Philippines this December
MANILA, Philippines — Liquor inspired by HBO’s hit TV-series “Game of Thrones” is set to hit the Philippine market in December this year.
Neil Skinner, Johnnie Walker South East Asian marketing director, confirmed that the brand partnered with GOT and will launch a limited edition whisky called “White Walker” this December.
“December is when the product would be live to purchase,” Skinner told Philstar.com at the sidelines of Whisky Live Manila 2018 last Friday.
“I think we have a launch event on the 29th of November so look out for that,” he added.
The White Walker drink is named after GOT’s “White Walkers,” an ancient race of humanoid ice creatures who caused a night that lasted a generation and inflicted a winter that lasted for decades. GOT is a TV series based on the novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” of George R. R. Martin.
The drink was created by specialist George Harper in cooperation with a small team of expert blenders at Johnnie Walker.
“The White Walker is in partnership with the Game of Thrones franchise and it's really an interesting take on Johnnie Walker’s style because it's quite a light, sweet whisky designed to be served frozen,” Skinner said.
Skinner furthered that the freezing the liquor’s pack gives it a nice reveal and if served frozen, it would bring out the sweet notes.
Aptly so, the whisky’s bottle is packaged with icy white and blue design along with the iconic Johnnie Walker Striding man logo with armor to fit in the ranks of Night King’s forces.
During the Whisky Live Manila event, some members of the press got the first taste of the anticipated whisky.
Harper said the Scotch whisky has notes of caramelized sugar and vanilla, fresh berries with a touch of orchard fruit. It features single malts from Scotland’s most northern distilleries Cardhu and Clynelish.
“Whiskies from Clynelish have endured long, Scottish Winters, not dissimilar to the long periods endured by the Night’s Watch who have ventured north of the wall - so it was the perfect place to start when creating this unique whisky,” Harper said in a release.
