Robinsons Supermarket celebrates ‘30 Fresh Years’?

OOH LA LAI - Lai S. Reyes - The Philippine Star

Apples are not only packed with vitamins and nutrients that aid in maintaining our health; symbolically, they are crammed with healthy juiciness, too. ?The Greeks attributed longevity to the awesome apple. In Islam, the apple is touted to cure all ills.

?And so, it didn’t come as a surprise when Robinsons Supermarket picked the green apple as its signature logo when it opened its first branch at Cebu Fuente in 1985 in Cebu City.

?“Health and wellness pop to mind when one sees an apple,” says Jody Gadia, general manager, Robinsons Supermarket, during its “30 Fresh Years” milestone celebration at Robinsons Forum on Pioneer St. , Mandaluyong City.

And this mythical fruit pretty much sums up what Robinsons Supermarket is all about. ?“Wellness is part and parcel of Robinsons Supermarket’s DNA. In fact, we’ve been taking on the wellness advocacy for 30 years now,” Gadia adds. ?

At Robinsons Supermarket, shoppers are encouraged to choose more fresh items — from fruits, veggies to meat, poultry and dairy — for a healthier lifestyle. Just last month, the supermarket chain held its “Freshtival,” where loyal customers received discounts and freebies with every purchase of the featured “fresh” produce. ?In line with its wellness advocacy, Robinsons Supermarket also partnered with the Food and Nutrition Research and Institute of the Philippines (FNRI) to help them identify which of the products in the store are certified healthy.

?“FNRI checks if the product manufacturers follow the codex standard of nutrition,” Gadia explains. “These products must be low in calories, rich in fiber, low in fat, sodium and no trans-fat. We will then put green tags on the products that passed FNRI’s test.”

?So the next time you shop at Robinsons Supermarket, always look for the green tags to be sure that what you’re buying is beneficial to you and your family’s health and well-being.

?“We’re not generous in handing out these green tags,” Gadia says with an impish grin. ?

Family fun fair

?To celebrate its “30 Fresh Years,” Robinsons Supermarket will hold a series of activities for its loyal patrons to enjoy. Dubbed “Family Fun Fair,” the whole family can take part in various health and wellness activities in four exciting booths — Heart on the Move, Box On Your Mind, Dare to Touch, Discover Wellness and Love Your Home — scattered around the participating supermarkets. Visit each wellness station and get an instant reward at the customer service center. It will be held at Robinsons Place Malolos from Sept. 4 to 6 and Robinsons Place Dumaguete from Sept. 18 to 20.

Robinsons Supermarket through the years

?Robinsons Supermarket now has 116 stores scattered all over the country. And in the course of 30 years, the supermarket chain has evolved to cater to the different needs of the market. ?Robinsons Supermarket has gone into three more formats: Robinsons Easy Mart, Robinsons Selections and the community mall. ?

“Where we are now is the Robinsons Supermarket, which caters primarily to moms, homemakers and office workers,” notes Gadia. “We recently launched a new format, which is Robinsons Easy Mart. “

Robinsons Easy Mart is a neighborhood store that offers a little bit of everything that homemakers need on a daily basis like shampoo, toothpaste, fresh produce and other perishable items. ?

“With the Easy Mart, we are addressing concerns for convenience and accessibility. It’s a better version of the neighborhood sari-sari store because it’s bigger and offers more items,” he adds.

?Robinsons Selections at Burgos Circle, The Fort, caters to the A and B crowd in upscale Makati. Here, you’ll find premium imported items for the discriminating set.

?“The Robinsons Community Malls is just a few blocks away from residential areas. It’s a smaller template of Robinsons Malls,” Gadia says. “There’s Robinsons Appliances, South Star pharmacy, Daiso, fast-food chains, a bank, a salon or a barber shop. You can have pretty much everything quickly without the hassle of getting stuck in traffic. We have nine Robinsons Community Malls. There’s one in BF Homes, Parañaque, Meycauayan and Pulilan, Bulacan.

?All of these formats are Robinsons Supermarket’s way of responding to what the market and their consumers need. So start your wellness journey at Robinsons Supermarket. ?
