Here's a restaurant that serves no-meat meal for Lent
MANILA, Philippines – Are you ditching meat for Lent?
As Lent commences, Catholics practice different acts of penitence and spiritual self-discipline, and one of those well-known practices is abstaining from meat.
According to Catholics, avoiding meat during this time help them cleanse and live a simple life. Hundred years ago, meat was a luxury and only the rich who could afford it or who raised their own cattle could eat it. Fish was a “poor man’s” meal, as compared to meat. Therefore, not gorging on meat aids them in channeling Christ’s humility and empathy for the poor.
For people who do not really have the time to prepare food appropriate for Lent, there’s a good news for you and your stomach. To help you keep up with your pledge, there are restaurants that practice the “no meat” movement as well. One of which is Slappy Cakes, a popular international all-day breakfast joint originating from Portland, Oregon.
And no, the restaurant is not just about pancakes.
