Welcome to the Mall of Kitchens
MANILA, Philippines - You almost feel like a child let loose in a candy shop. Except that you’re a homemaker and you’re in the Mall of Kitchens. Yes, Virginia, there is such a place, the first of its kind in the Philippines. Located at the corner of Kamagong and Lawaan Streets in San Antonio Village, Makati, the 2,500 square-meter facility is the first foodservice mall in the country, “fully stocked with the highest quality kitchen equipment, utensils, food service furniture and other merchandise for commercial as well as household use,†marketing manager Ian Aguilar explains. “MOK is a brand under Technolux, the country’s largest importer and distributor of a complete line of foodservice, small wares, laundry and cleaning equipment.â€
With 39 years in the local market, Technolux has long enjoyed a solid client base among hotels, resorts and restaurants, manufacturing and industrial plants, as well as fast food and convenience stores. While MOK’s organized warehouse and industrial look has attracted institutional clients who like to visit the unique store to see for themselves the plethora of products and to keep abreast of the latest trends in the foodservice and hospitality industry, a special area — 1,000 square meters of the total 2,500 — is dedicated to retail and display, intended for the walk-in home cook or foodie who may simply be looking for that extraordinary kitchen gadget or impressive tableware to perk up their home dining setting.
How would you like to own the same class of dinnerware as those used in your favorite five-star hotel or restaurant? At MOK, you can buy a fine set of RAK Porcelain, for example, for personal use. They have a wide inventory of dinner plates, cups and saucers, and drinking glasses neatly arranged on shelves as well as racks stacked with high-quality pots and pans of different sizes and materials, ladles, weighing scales, and other cookware. You can even choose from an assortment of color-coded chopping boards as well as kitchen knives — the same ones professional chefs use.
Are you looking for kitchen utensils or equipment for your home-based catering or start-up food business? Chances are you’ll find them at MOK. Among the most in-demand equipment are the Vitamix Blenders, Taylor Soft Serve Freezers, Frymaster Deep Fryers, and Manitowoc Ice Machines. Preferred brands of top hotels and restaurants include De Buyer catering equipment, American Metal Craft, Table Craft and Zieher buffet wares.
You can get ideas from the dining table set-ups and other showcases inside the store. In one corner is a special items area with sample items for hotels and special projects. You can’t fail to notice the display and retail area at the center as you enter the store. Most of the merchandise are imported from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
“MOK regularly sends its team to different parts of the world to keep abreast of the latest developments in the culinary landscape,†says small wares division AVP Jenny Carlos.
Also prominently displayed is a proudly Philippine brand, Gastro Chef, a line of high-quality cooking, dining, serving and lifestyle accessories. Trombetta coffee from Italy was on sale at the time of our visit. We also found tubs of Comprital and a variety of ice-cream toppings and sauces. You can buy Fiji bottled water, natural artesian water from Fiji Islands, by the bottle or in bulk.
“MOK has its own test kitchen where our corporate chefs conduct cooking demos for customers,†Aguilar says. “We also hold talks on food safety, food costing, and other topics related to food service. We promise our customers a wider range of products and world-class service.â€
Store hours at MOK are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays to Fridays. It offers motorcycle delivery to corporate customers who require small item sizes immediately delivered to store locations.
