Moms dine while kids play at ActiveFun

Gourmet cuisine is popping up everywhere. But is it odd to be serving mushroom pasta drizzled with a few drops of intoxicating truffle oil in a kid’s play land? Definitely not!

We just had the most refreshing Vietnamese spring rolls, the best wood-fired salmon pizza, and the most luscious fettucine al tartufo in one of the most unlikely places on Bonifacio High Street — ActiveFun Children’s Play and Party Centres.

Located on 9th Ave. corner 28th St., Bonifacio High Street, Global City Taguig, ActiveFun not only attracts active and fun-loving children, but their moms, too, because while the kids are playing, their moms bond with their girl friends over gourmet food at ActiveFun’s Circus Café.

A safe and kid-friendly recreational facility, ActiveFun is divided into two sections: the toddlers’ area featuring the ball pit, mini slide, and building blocks; and the play frame for older kids, where the giant slides, fountain balls, trampolines, tunnels, and hanging bridges and obstacles promote exercise and satisfy kids’ thirst for adventure and exploration.

Play it forward: ActiveFun not only attracts active children, but their moms, too, because while the kids are playing, their moms bond with their girl friends over gourmet food at Circus Café.

“My daughter Annika and I would regularly go to ActiveFun’s first branch in Pasay City when she was still a toddler,” relates doting mom Lorraine Lim Aguila.

Lorraine was so impressed with the place that as soon as word leaked out that the original owners wanted to sell the indoor play land, she met up with them and closed the deal in no time.

But there was one problem. The moms and nannies didn’t have a comfortable place to stay while waiting for the kids. 

“That’s when I decided to put up a café (Circus Café) right beside the play area. It’s a dream come true. I’m one of those parents who are fed up with calorie-laden and greasy food items offered in most amusement parks and commercial indoor playgrounds,” adds Lorraine, whose family owns Casa Armas. A certified foodie, Lorraine would go out of her way to try the signature fare in fine-dining restaurants or hole-in-the-wall eateries here and abroad.

“I’m always on the lookout for new restaurants. I also read food magazines and blogs to have an idea of what’s happening in the food industry,” she shares.

Circus Café is not your typical refreshment parlor. Here, you won’t find hotdogs on sticks, snow cones, popcorn or chips. The café boasts tempting treats that not only please the palate but the eyes as well. Think cheeseburger with crisp fries and fresh greens on the side; beef nachos with cheddar dip and tomato salsa served not on paper plates but in elegant tear-shaped bowls; homemade black pasta with squid rings, and Vietnamese spring rolls in tiny cups.

Circus Café’s management team together with the in-house chef — who had a stint at a five-star hotel in Makati — conceptualized Circus Café’s menu for more than two months.

“In designing the menu, we didn’t just think of the kids and their moms/dads. We also took into consideration the employees and clients of the business establishments in the building. We want to offer our quality food; something that they can look forward to with every visit. Here, you can have a slice of pizza with a bottle of fine wine if you so wish,” adds Lorraine.

ActiveFun also has spacious function rooms for children’s parties, corporate meetings, team-building activities, product launches or seminars.
