The French connection in Cebu

- Honey Jarque Loop -

The Gustavian, an established leading gastronomic haven, is one of Cebu’s most fashionable restaurants. It is where one can sample excellent cocktails and enjoy an exceptional menu in comfortable surroundings.

Gustavian was the venue of choice for two very memorable milestones recently. The first event was an intimate dinner given by family and friends for Michel Lhuillier, a true gentleman with extensive accomplishments. He is honorary consul of France in Cebu, Bailli Delegue Philippines of the international gastronomic society Chaine des Rotisseurs, a visionary and multi-faceted entrepreneur whose business acumen has pushed him to the forefront as one of the country’s leading businessmen.

Ever supportive wife Amparito Lhuillier, a philanthropist, a working socialite, jewelry designer, a loving mother and doting grandma, attended to the details of the party and made sure everyone had a great time.

An array of cheeses, salmon, homemade pate, appetizers galore were on the cocktail tables, which were adorned with hydrangeas and orchids from the private garden of the Lhuilliers.

The evening overflowed with a vast selection of the finest Spanish food and a wonderful exchange of memories. It was truly an enjoyable get-together.

A fortnight later, Michel and Amparito Lhuillier tendered cocktails and dinner in farewell to French Ambassador Thierry Borja de Mozota at the Gustavian Restaurant.

Ambassador Mozota has been a regular guest to the city and during his short visits, he has met several individuals who have become his friends. It is no wonder that the ambassador’s good nature and uncomplicated character have earned him a special place in the hearts of Cebuanos, among them Rep. Eduardo Gullas and his wife Mingming, Marguerite Lhuillier, Rosebud Sala, Louie Thevenin and his lovely wife Honeylet, Teresin Mendezona, Johnny and Anna Marie Dizon and Michel Marchant.

Prior to his departure, President Noynoy Aquino conferred the Order of Sikatuna with the rank of Datu (Gold distinction) on Ambassador Mozota. This distinguished award is the National Order of Diplomatic Merit of the Philippines conferred upon individuals who have rendered exceptional and meritorious services to the country.
