Dia de la Hispanidad in Cebu

- Honey Jarque Loop -

Hispanic communities the world over honor and celebrate their ancestry on Oct. 12, which is widely known as Dia de la Hispanidad.

On this much-anticipated day, los oficiales y miembros del Casino Español de Cebu got together for a formal dinner dance at the club’s Salon de España.

The ladies looked lovely in their evening gowns while the caballeros  in either formal barong tagalog or black-tie suits were dashing.

Just before dinner club president Enrico Gandionco and  Spanish Honorary Consul Jaime Picornell raised their glasses and led the celebratory toast to the Reyes de Espana  and to the Filipino people who have embraced and adopted much of the Spanish culture and tradition in their daily lives.

Everyone feasted on sumptuous dishes laid out on various food stations that featured all-time house specialties. For starters they had jamon Serrano, a selection of Spanish cured-cold cuts, croquetas, salmon, ensalada casera and a variety of salads. The plato principal consisted of roast leg of lamb with herbs and spices, roasted US Angus prime chuck roll of beef, lengua con setas, and paella Valenciana.

The evening entertainment was provided by the Rockin Revival Band, which had the guests hit the dance floor right after dinner and way into the wee hours.

As in years past, just before midnight, a  beef soup deep with  lots of vegetables cooked to perfection was served.
