40 and goin' steady
Adhering to the request on the invitation, the invitees came dressed in red for the heartwarming 40th wedding-anniversary celebration of Anton and Lili Florendo.
Held at the exclusive Maria Luisa Clubhouse, the couple renewed their marriage vows in a solemn service performed by Pastor Macky Sabayle. Following the touching ceremony, everyone seated themselves at tables, which were adorned with beautiful centerpieces of calla lilies and white roses interspersed with lush greens.
A long buffet table prepared by Café Laguna was set up and guests had their fill of tasty hors d’oeuvres, pasta, roasted beef, flavorful desserts, and so much more.
Later in the evening a sentimental slide presentation prepared by the couple’s youngest son Lorenz brought everyone back in time to when Anton first set eyes on his future bride, Lili Maglana, in Silliman University in Dumaguete, their memorable marriage at the National City Church in Quezon City, to their many memorable and fun-filled trips here and abroad.
The Florendo clan was in full attendance. Anton gave a touching speech and Lili also said a few thankful words. Their four children — Toby and his wife Yvonne, Leanne, Maita Alcantara and Lorenz — were all present to honor their parents.
Making the evening a memorable one were the couple’s endearing grandchildren Niki Florendo, who played the guitar, while Laela Garcia, all of six years old, sang.
For entertainment, the Femme Aura Band provided the music of the ’60s to the present. Guests hit the dance floor right after the celebrants led the way with a graceful foxtrot.
Attending this event were the couple’s many friends from the different sectors of society. Anton, who was once district governor of Rotary Club, had his fellow Rotarians in full force. An avid sportsman, his golf buddies were also there. They included country club president Montito Garcia and his lovely wife Liz, radiologist Edwin Medalle, Bengie and Maria Corazon Akol, Bruce and Rosalyn Chiongbian, and Vicky Moraza.
It is common knowledge that Lili, who has always been present and supportive of Anton’s civic activities, is a caring mom who is always ready to extend a helping hand. Lili is also very creative and can fashion beautiful handmade crafts.
It is rare to see a couple enjoying themselves so much after 40 years of marriage and for that they deserve a congratulatory toast. Here’s to many more years of happiness.
In lieu of gifts, guests were asked to give a donation to the Rotary Club Cebu Port Center for Rotaplast Medical Mission 2011.
