Abe Restaurant tops Gold Spot Awards
MANILA, Philippines - Abé was named recently Best Filipino Restaurant at the 2009 Nescafe Gold Spot Awards. The awards, now on its second year, honors the best food establishments and celebrate Metro Manila as a dining destination.
In choosing the Best Filipino Restaurant, voters were advised to consider how innovative the restaurant is in preparing and presenting Filipino food. Food quality, taste and service are major considerations, as well as the restaurant’s overall atmosphere and comfort.
Abé, the Filipino restaurant of the LJC Restaurant Group, serves popular Kapampangan fare and Filipino favorites. The restaurant pays tribute to the memory of writer, painter and bon vivant Emilio Aguilar Cruz, father of the late Larry J. Cruz, founder of the LJC Group of Restaurants.
The name “Abé” is Kapampangan for friend, companion, and getting together. It was also Aguilar Cruz’s nickname, the name he was called by his friends. He was known for his love of good food in all its forms: gourmet cuisine, peasant fare, exotic delicacies, and comfort food. The menu reflects Abé’s favorites, as well as those of his writer and artist friends.
The judges in this year’s Nescafe Gold Spot Awards are Yummy editor-in-chief Becky Kho, chefs Him Uy de Baron and Aileen Anastacio, food bloggers Franco of Table for Three Please and JJ Yulo, and actress Cherie Gil.
The winners for each category were chosen by online readers of www.spot.ph and via text votes. The board of judges chose the shortlist of nominees from online nominations in spot.ph.
