Pizza Hut, Taco Bell donate P2.1 million to WFP

-

MANILA, Philippines - Pizza Hut and Taco Bell recently donated P2.1M to World Food Programme (WFP) Philippines in support of its feeding operations for typhoon victims in Metro Manila and other affected provinces. The donation was formally turned over by Pizza Hut and Taco Bell COO Lars Peterson to WFP Philippines country director Stephen Anderson in the presence of National Nutrition Council officer Eileen Blanco and DSWD regional director Honorita Bayudan.

Peterson lauded the selfless efforts and contributions of the staff and management teams of the two brands that made the campaign possible in 2009. He especially recognized the participation of the business partners of Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, as well as the 90,000 customers all over the country who contributed to make the campaign successful.

In 2009, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell offered tokens such as bookmarks, desk calendars, and wristbands to customers in exchange for donations that went to the feeding program fund.

Last February, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell teamed up with WFP volunteers to help in the actual distribution of supplementary food at Bay Laguna as part of the ongoing feeding program.

Bay Laguna, one of the many areas in Calabarzon, was seriously damaged by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. Pizza Hut endorser Diether Ocampo also took time out to join the group of volunteers to read a story to kids of beneficiary families.

World Hunger Relief campaign is a global campaign of Yum! Brands (Pizza Hut and Taco Bell’s parent company) with WFP which aims to raise awareness on hunger issues and generate funds to help WFP feed more people in need all over the world.  It has since donated more than US$20 million to WFP for its global feeding missions.
